About San Salvador: a small island with big history
San Salvador is one of the smallest inhabited islands, and one of the most storied: a stone cross on Long Bay marks Christopher Columbus’s first landfall. The island is the exposed peak of a 15,000 ft undersea mountain, with inland saltwater lakes, Great Lake National Park, Watling’s Blue Hole and around 50 dive sites on the walls of its lee side. Grotto Beach, Bonefish Bay and Snow Beach are the favourites.
Why it's on our list
- Columbus’s landfall
