About Acklins & Crooked Island: islands of unspoiled beauty

Acklins, Crooked Island and Long Cay wrap around the Bight of Acklins, a 500-square-mile lagoon of knee-deep flats. The islands are almost as natural as they were centuries ago: Pompey Bay on Acklins is one of the largest Lucayan settlement sites in The Bahamas, Columbus named Long Cay “Fortune Island”, and Acklins is one of only two islands where cascarilla bark grows. Fly into Spring Point (Acklins) or Colonel Hill (Crooked Island); ferries link the two islands twice a day.

Why it's on our list

  • Bonefish flats
  • Lucayan sites
  • Twice-daily ferry
