About Rake ’n’ Scrape on Cat Island

The official tourism site calls Cat Island the birthplace of rake and scrape, the infectious Bahamian music played on repurposed objects such as a carpenter’s saw and goatskin drums. Every June the Rake & Scrape Festival celebrates it. Sir Sidney Poitier grew up on the island, just outside Arthur’s Town.

Why it's on our list

  • Rake & Scrape Festival in June
  • Saws and goatskin drums
  • Sidney Poitier’s boyhood island

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Rake ’n’ Scrape on Cat Island before you go.
