About Cat Island: the height of escapism

Cat Island is quiet and unassuming, anchored by Mount Alvernia, at 206 ft the highest point in The Bahamas, where Father Jerome built The Hermitage in 1939. The island is the birthplace of rake and scrape, celebrated every June, and Sir Sidney Poitier grew up just outside Arthur’s Town. Expect diving, kiteboarding, nature trails and an eight-mile pink-sand beach; Makers Air flies to New Bight from Fort Lauderdale, and boaters tie up at Hawk’s Nest.
